Mayor of Almelo visits The House of Lace and Now
Last Wednesday, March 11, 2026, mayor Richard Korteland paid a visit to The House Of Cotton & Now, where my exhibition It’s Not What It Seems is currently on display.
For me, it was a special moment. Not only because it feels like recognition for my work, but also because it took place in a place that is so strongly connected to the history of Almelo.
The House Of Cotton & Now is located in the historic Richters House on Market Square. The museum tells the story of Almelo as a textile city – about cotton, labor and entrepreneurship. The name refers to the past(Cotton) and the present(Now). Companies such as Ten Cate have played an important role in that development. The house connects that industrial past with contemporary stories, art and social themes.

That my digital collages are allowed to hang here feels fitting. Just as textiles are woven from threads, I build my images layer by layer with Photoshop and Lightroom. My work is about looking and looking again. About realizing that what you see is not always what it seems.
During the visit, I talked about my working method, my inspiration and the importance of art in a city like Almelo. Art and heritage give a city identity and depth. They bring people together and provide space for reflection and imagination.

For me, this visit underscores how important it is that culture remains visible and supported. I am grateful that my work may hang in this place – in a house where past and present meet.
